Maria Ionescu

Maria Ionescu has received her BEng in Electronic and Electrical Engineering from UCL in 2010 and her MRes in Photonics Systems Development from UCL in 2011. She is currently pursuing her PhD with the Optical Networks Group on the topic of Digital Signal Processing for sensing in Software Defined Optical Networks, under the supervision of Dr Benn Thomsen. Her current research interests include performance monitoring, coherent optical communication, digital signal processing and estimation theory. Maria was on secondment through the BITE Industry Exchange Award Scheme at Xtera Communications, one of the world-leading equipment providers for long-haul submarine and terrestrial optical communications systems. Upon completion of her secondment, Maria was offered a permanent, full-time position at Xtera working as a Photonics Engineer.
