David Stefan
David Stefan is an EngD candidate in Urban Sustainability and Resilience at UCL. His dissertation focuses on IT systems supporting complex sustainability decisions. David is passionate about using technology to help make difficult choices, particularly those that involve large uncertainty. He believes that technology, if used craftily, can help to understand the impacts of some of the toughest decisions. David’s love of sailing has developed into a great interest in marine navigation technology and how advances in social networks and community mapping could improve the enjoyment and safety at sea. He wishes to transfer his expertise in software architecture and decision analysis to the maritime community through developing modern sea pilot and mapping applications. David was on secondment through the BITE Industry Exchange Award Scheme at the Department for Transport Maritime Resilience group. David is currently negotiating the terms of a follow-up contract with the department to continue this development as part of a project jointly funded by the DfT and UCL Advances.
